Though Lone Pine CA had more than enough to keep us busy, I could not resist visiting these two small casinos. You know me....

Paiute Palace Indian Casino

The first was in Bishop CA, right along Rt. 395. We stopped there for lunch on our way down Rt. 395 towards Lone Pine and of course I could not resist trying out the slots. Lunch was good, hot and tasty and the service friendly. By the way, they have an area you can stay in overnight for $5.00, no hookups but for one night would be fine. We actually were going to stay there but weather was coming in and we wanted to get to Lone Pine. Good thing we did, they got snow.

They have a good variety for a small casino, even having one of my favorite machines. I did not play more than 20 minutes though, so did not win anything to speak of. The Players Club gave $10.00 play money and the staff were very friendly and sweet. Would go back if in the area and would give it a 3 out of 5.

Fort Independence Casino
Independence CA

Talk about small, this casino, which is in Independence CA, was attached to the local Indian gas station/quik stop store but hey, it had good reviews so I checked it out. (not surprised on that are ya?) The casino had only about 50 machines but both Keith and I won a few bucks. He more than me..... They had a good variety and the staff were friendly. Nothing extra in the way of a Player"s Club but for the 20 minutes we were there, no big deal. It was actually fun to be in one so small. If you are in the area, stop by, you will get a kick out of it. Out of 5, I give it a 2 because no extras.

Sparks and Reno Casinos

We have stayed in the Sparks-Reno area before at an incredible campground called the Sparks Marina RV Resort, so this time we tried to see new casinos and areas.

Western Village Inn and Casino
This is a very nice small casino. Actually I guess you could call it medium sized. I really enjoyed this one. Actually went back 3 times. You saw people winning and the staff was exceptionally nice. But, the neatest thing was the decor. It was decorated with incredible lighting and design. Go to the website and you will get an idea of the wildness of it. I won some money here and played a couple of new games I had not played before. I highly recommend this casino. It has a Mexican restaurant that was delicious and if you get there before 5:30pm, prices are 1/2 off. Out of 5, I give it a 4.

JA Nugget Casino
Had the delight and pleasure of meeting two of my favorite people here for dinner. It was wonderful to see you Robert and Tim. This casino is a favorite of mine from long ago. Did not play much here, time was limited but went home with an extra 20.00 bucks. Restaurant was great, delicious food and a really nice waitress. Out of 5 I give it a 3.

Harrah's in Reno
Don't waste your time. We have visited other Harrahs around the country and I have yet to either win or see many others winning. Staff usually gives the impression they wished to be somewhere else. We stayed only a few minutes. Also, if you have gone to another Harrahs, you do not get the benefits of the players club at the others. That's a real ripoff. Buffet was okay, not something I would go back too. All in all, not a friendly casino in my opinion. Out of 5, I give it a 1.

Peppermill Casino
We were not here very long, but I enjoyed it. The buffet was incredible and delicious. Beautifully decorated. Did not see many people winning but everyone seemed to be having fun. Would try it again for a longer time next time. Will definitely go back for the buffet. Out of 5, I give it a 3.

Atlantis Casino
Liked this casino, very beautiful and friendly. People seemed to be having a good time and winning. I did, a few bucks anyway. Did not eat there but will next time. The decor was beautiful and very interesting. Recommend it if you are in Reno. Out of 5 I give it a 3 because can't rate food.

Finally, a New Casino.......

About 2/3s the way between Boise ID to Reno NV, is the small town of Winnemucca NV. A lazy sleepy town with little industry and 3 casinos. We stayed at the Model T Casino Campground, a definite "I will forget this place soon." park. Upon arriving, I was rudely told it was necessary for me to go through the entire casino to register us at the hotel desk. I entered the door and the first thing I noticed was the dirty dingy carpeting. It was suppose to be red (I saw a clean spot by the check-in counter) but had so much dirt and muck on it it was black. Yucky!.......Needless to say, we did not play this casino. I could not get passed the carpet and the fact that it was so dark. So we went to one of the other 2 casino, "The Winner's Casino". A very impressive small casino. We ate at the restaurant, "Grandma's House" and it was delicious. We had Prime Rib which was very tender and rare, just the way we like it. Then I played for a while and won a few bucks. The impressive thing was, you saw people winning all throughout the casino. Hopefully, we never have to return to Winnemucca but if we do, we will stop at the Winner's, if for no other reason, the Prime Rib.

Hello again,
It has been a good while since I have added any new casinos. We have visited a few lately but not many new ones, but I will add a couple.

WIND RIVER CASINO
Riverton ID

Wind River is a new small casino, with a restaurant and 700 slot machines, gaming tables and keno. Keith actually found this casino while looking at an area we wished to tour.
I really enjoyed this one, people were friendly and slots loose. We stopped by there twice and both times we won a few bucks. You saw a lot of people winning. The employees smiled and made a point of stopping and saying hello and asking if there was anything you needed. The players club was new and gave free slot play as an incentive. The restaurant was nothing to speak of but not bad either. Keith had a steak and I had prime rib and they were both delicious. (Oh, by the way they give you a coupon worth 5.00 off your meal.) but the ambiance was not good, sorta like eating in a school cafeteria. That really struck me as strange since the casino itself was nicely decorated.
Definitely would go back and visit again.

RIVERS CASINO
Pittsburgh PA

When I went home to visit my mother, who is doing well by the way, I had the pleasure of going with my friend Sue and her delightful mother to Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh. We traveled by bus with 80 or so other players for the 2.5 hour trip. It was a very comfortable and pleasant time, they even showed us movies. The bus company charges 25.00 but gives you back 20.00 in slot play and 5.00 off your meal. Good deal, huh!
This is a gorgeous casino, overlooking the river with a fabulous buffet. It is worth going just for the food. The dessert bar is incredible. We played and ate the afternoon away. They offer 3000 slot machines, gaming tables and keno.
I really like this casino. I usually come home with a couple of buck so I am happy. Can't wait to go again with Sue and her mom when I am home next spring.

Until we get back on the road and visit some new casinos I will tell you about some we visited last year.

Tucson Arizona Casinos

Desert Diamond Casino , a very pretty casino is located on the Nogales Hwy. The buffet is sometimes great and other times just average, Friday’s buffet being the best we have had. Its was very clean and well taken care of. I have never won very much there, just a few bucks so I have to rate the slots as very tight. Worth a trip if in Tucson.

Casino Del Sol Casino located on S. Camino de Oeste. It can be a little hard to find so be sure to look at a map before going. It is a beautiful casino with a Spanish theme. The ceiling in the restaurant area is worth a trip there. It is really beautiful. Very clean and comfortable. Unfortunately, the slots seemed a little tight but Keith won so it must have just been me. So if you are in Tucson stop on by.

Idaho Casinos

Coeur d’Alene Casino in Coeur d'Alene ID. is in my top five. The buffet at this casino is wonderful, marvelous, delicious and beyond belief. (Or at least it was last year.) They have an Alaskan King Crab buffet that is wonderful on Friday from 3 pm to 10 pm. The buffet had such a variety. Highly, Highly recommend. The price is great too for the amount you get. Slots were pretty lose, I won a few buck so I was happy. I would go back anytime, but would drive out of my way on Crab buffet day to go here. Try it, I think you will like it.

I do love Casinos!

Howdy, As most of you know I do so love to visit and explore casinos across this great country of ours. Believe me there are some good ones and some bad ones. I will review them as we travel and to catch everyone up with the ones I have already visited, I will also give my personal review on a few older ones.

We are still in Ohio helping out with Mom, so we have only visited 2 casinos in the past few months.

First we went to The Rivers Casino in Pittsburg PA. It is a new casino with loads of slots and tables. One wall is glass and the view of the river is worth a trip there. Also they have a wonderful, delicious buffet, a little pricey, but worth it. The slots were a little stiff but I only played a couple different ones. My favorite machine is the Vibrant 7, a penny (last of the big spenders) machine that pays even if you are only playing 25 cents. I usually play 50 or 80 cents. Payouts are bigger. I won a few bucks on my machine so I was happy. Would definitely go back. Rating 4 out of 5.

Later on we went to Wheeling Island Hotel and Casino. This is an older casino but it was clean and well taken care of. Beautiful main entrance. There were lots of machines and tables and it was very busy. They do not seem to be up to date on machines, but it was obvious they are trying. Staff was friendly. I did see people winning but I was not one of them. Lost a couple of buck there. Would go back though if we find ourselves in that area. By the way, you can go downstairs and see the greyhounds race. Wow, what a treat. They are so beautiful and graceful. Rating 3 out of 5.

Now, an oldie we have visited many times. The Inn of the Mountain Gods in Ruidoso, NM. This is beyond a doubt the most beautiful casinos we have ever been to. I could go there just for the art work. They display Native American artist and sculptures' and they are superb. I could have brought all of them home with me especially the art of Indian children.

This casino has our favorite buffet with a dessert bar to die for. It is huge. The bread pudding with whiskey sauce is noted as the best in the country. I was told that people come from miles around just for a dish of it. Believe me, after two trips for refills, it is all true. It melts in your mouth. The other food was delicious too.

The view from the back of the casino which is all glass is unbelievable. The mountain, Sierra Blanco literally takes up the whole window. They provide comfortable chairs and sofas to enjoy a cup of coffee and stare at the mountain. By the way, I think it grows as you watch it. It is almost always covered in snow.

Oh yes, back to the casino. It is not super huge, but not small either. Just right. I win every time I go there. People are friendly and there is a very good variety of games. Would highly recommend this casino if you find yourself in New Mexico. Rating 4.9 of 5.
